 Minturn Colorado is located on the Eagle River near the confluence of Gore Creek. The original settlers were attracted to the region for the silver mines high above the town.
As the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad worked it's way west in 1887, Minturn developed into a booming crossroads for transportation and industry and was incorporated in 1904. The town is named for Robert Bowne Minturn, Jr., who was Vice President of the D&RG railroad.
With the development of Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts in the 1960's, Minturn is less than 15 minutes from world class skiing. However, unlike the bustling resort communites, Minturn is still a quiet mountain town with much of the character of the original railroad and mining town.
Minturn Colorado is situated at a unique ecosystem dividing line where the deserts of western Colorado meet the green mountainous region of central Colorado. |
